
The first issue of European Historical Game Studies is available in open access. Funded by the Faculty of History at the University of Gdansk, it is one of the flagship initiatives developed under the Center for Historical Games and Heritage.
EGHS is an international, non-profit, open-access, peer-reviewed journal of academic game studies. Its mission is to publish high-quality empirical and theoretical research on games on all platforms – digital and nondigital – as long as their themes include European histories and heritages.
The editorial team includes Michał Mochocki 🔜 GIC Katowice (Executive Editor), Yaraslau Kot 🔜 CGI,Lodz GIC Katowice (Lead Editor for this issue), Jaroslav Švelch, Sandra Camarda, Péter Kristóf Makai, Jonathan Barbara, Marie-Luise Meier, and Maciej Wojcieszak (Editorial Assistant).
The inaugural issue, “Ukrainian Games of War”, is connected to the annual Games of War conference hosted by the University of Gdansk since 2024. They explore games created in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2014 and 2022. Contributors to EHGS 1(1)/2026 include Aliaksandr Razhkou, Jagoda Kościelniak, Emilia Mazur, Kacper Karwacki, Anna Sroka, Igor Kwasigroch, Michał Palmąka and Yaraslau Kot 🔜 CGI,Lodz GIC Katowice.
