Florian Bettel
Florian Bettel is a cultural scientist who researches and teaches at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. In his publications, exhibitions and research projects, he focuses on the process of becoming (“Gewordensein”) of technical cultures, which is expressed in future concepts, questions of belonging and emotion in art, games & play, popular culture and technology.
2017–2022 PI of the digital humanities project “Portfolio & Showroom – Making Art Research Accessible” (portfolio-showroom.ac.at). He was part of the ERC project “Locus Ludi. The Cultural Fabric of Play and Games in Classical Antiquity” (Université de Fribourg, PI Véronique Dasen, locusludi.ch) and was co-initiator of the research project “Image+ Platform for Open Art Education” (2020–2024, imageplus.at). Other research projects include “The Entanglement between Gesture, Media and Politics” (2017–2020, Volkswagen Foundation, gesture-media-politics.eu) and “Living Rooms: The Art of Mobilising Belonging(s)” (2010–2012, WWTF).
